The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Rahamon Ade Bello, condemns attack on student in Carissa University College, Kenya and Xenophobic attacks on Blacks in South Africa.
This he said while addressing the people at the 2013/2014 Session Convocation Ceremonies of the University on Wednesday.
Professor Bello says, "attacks on educational institutions and students anywhere in our continent must be condemned and we must take all steps to stamp out the wanton elimination/disruption of the lives of the future leaders of the continents."
Bello added that, "the use of violence and the killing of innocent lives on mutual and other issues that could be otherwise addressed, are not only barbaric but retard economic and social development ." "Its impact on social development is real."
2,732 graduands were conferred with various degrees and diplomas in the university.
Emeriti Professorship of the University was conferred on three retired professors of the university viz: Prof. Olayide Mojeed Abass, OON, Prof. Francis Fajemirokun and Prof Soga Sofola.
While Lt.-General (rtd) Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, GCON, Devon Gamaliel Oforitsenere Onosode, OFR and Pastor (Dr.) Enoch Adejare Adeboye, were conferred with honorary degrees of the University for their noticeable and immense contribution to education and quality of life in Nigeria.
Moreso, the governing Council of the university have approved the automatic employment of the best two students, with CGPA not less than 4.00 in each of the universities' programmes.
Meanwhile, 10 years after the universities' Student Union Government (SUG) was prohibited, the SUG have been resuscitated, following the drafting and endorsement of a new Unilag Student Union (ULSU).
The new executive committee is led by Mr. Abiodun Martins,who was elected in a free and fair election on Thursday March 26, 2015 and sworn-in on Thursday, April 9, 2015.
