Theresa Dike rushed into the Renny's fast food Restaurant and Bar, she could remember the call vividly from his Fiancee Benjamin Adebayo, they will soon get married. Having been dating for the past 8months, the call sounded urgent and serious. Tessy as fondly called even asked Benjamin to hold on till evening after work that Monday morning but Ben insist that she comes right away.
As she left her working place that morning to Renny's Fast food, her mind went to many reasons that could make Ben wish to see her so urgent.
Is it that Ben has finally agreed on her chosen date for the wedding which is next month ending, being October or is it that he has gotten the promotion they have prayed together for. But he could have told her on the phone instead of putting her through this stress, maybe he wanted to surprise her as usual. Could it be the car for he promised her a before they wed? Oh! How romantic it will be. She couldn't stop herself from wondering which it will be. Was it not last Friday that they went out on a date and she slept over in his house, he could have told her what it is, She taught.

She rushed in as the door man opened the door, the air conditioner some how reduced her anxiety, she scanned the interior of the restaurant, she looked at the eatery side but he is not there, that means he must be at the bar. She majestically walked towards the Bar and there he is having a glass of Five Alive juice which was a sign to her that all is not well. Ben never had fruit juice, he preferred them raw to the packaged ones. When she came close to him, he smiled, stood up and motioned her to the other chair opposite him.
"Theresa dear am so sorry for bringing you out in this manner at such time of the day", Ben apologised. Another jolt in her heart, something is definitely wrong, he never address her by Theresa.
"Actually Theresa", he continued, "something came up, I will not have a rest of mind if... Oh!! My manners, please forgive me, What will you have?" He said.
More signs Ben never misses in action when it comes to courtesy. "Thank you am ok, but what is it?" Now feeling apprehensive.
"Theresa you see, I have been thinking and taking stock of things over the months". Oh God!! It shouldn't be bad, I don't want to lose him, I love him, she taught. "Am sorry Theresa, am breaking the engagement, I am getting married next week to my Baby Mama Linda." he said.
It took her seconds or was it minutes to take in the news, she stared at him, mouth open, hands on the table, looking into void, then it hit her like a bomb blast...the reality of another broken engagement.
Slowly the tears came down, first in drops, then it flowed, she could not hold it any longer, she cried in front of the man who has been the source of her happiness and now the source of her sorrow if she will allow him.
Benjamin Adeboye, "Why?" "Who is he, how long have you been seeing him, how long have you been sleeping with him", she asked in tears.
"You see Theresa, he continues, "I didn't know I have a daughter, Nancy now five year old, her mother returned from the states 3 months ago and we happen to meet, we have been planning this wedding since then".
"I am sorry, but their are lots of men out there who can be with you and (she slaps his face), she couldn't bear him any longer, she stood up and walked out in a haste, on getting to the door she banged it without even allowing the doorman to open it,this caused stares from the customers. At the car park she open her Toyota Camry car, slammed the door, ignited the engine and sped off.
Tessy sat on an arm chair facing the mirror in her bedroom, she had been indoors since she returned from the restaurant, she had cried all through the morning, took her bathe made a fast meal with Indomie and now gulping down a bottle of a red wine with the aim of getting drunk, just to forget everything, forget everybody, forget about marriage, about that punk Benjamin! She wants to get drunk, then sleep and when she wakes up everything would have been wiped out of her memory that she won't remember having met any guy like Ben. Maybe she taught, it will all be in her dreams.
Clutching the remaining drink in the bottle, sitting on the mirror looking at herself, she remembered how it all got to this stage, she will be 28years old next month.
Theresa Dike is 6 inches tall, an oval face with a preety long nose and a beautiful set of teeth. Her eyes could melt a stone, she is endowed with good body shape that looks like that of a movie star, she is in fact an epitome of beauty both in character. An Account graduate of University of Lagos, Nigeria. She pays her bills and is contented.
Looking at image in the mirror, she cried again, why has all these befallen her, this is her third broken engagement in 4 years since she left university, her first man Dayo dated her from college, they both graduated, and immediately he travelled to Canada and married a white girl sending his apologies to her with some money to take care of her self, but a woman needs more than material things she taught. Next was Femi, a Bank Branch Manager where she initially worked, he dated her for two years not knowing that he is married with two kids, he left his family in Portharcourt, when Tessy found out she broke the relationship and quit the job finding another one at Mr Johnson's Mall as Chief Accountant. Then Ben! Ben has become part of her past now she taught, was it not three days ago he was making love to her with him promising her heaven and earth. Oh God! I hate him, she sobbed. Gradually the drink took hold of her and she hurriedly changed into her night gown and threw herself on the bed and dozed off.
Her phone rang twice before she could pick it up by her pillow without checking the caller identity. "Hello! Who is this?" "Hello Tessy!" "It's me Mike, didn't you check my Identity?" "Ooh! Am sorry, I was asleep when you called" she said. Only his voice has the power of calming her troubled mind. "I drove pass your office and checked on you but your secretary said you took an emergency break today, seems your not feeling too well, whatsup?" "Hope all is well?" Mike inquired.
"Oh Michael Freeman!", She yawned. Mike has a way of figuring her out, he has been her best male friend since her 100 level in University, he is like a brother, a companion and a confidante to her, like an angel sent to take away her troubles whenever she is down. "Am not fine Mike, Ben broke up with me this morning", she said. Oh gosh! He is such a fool!" "
If I see him am gonna punch out his milk teeth, am sorry sweetie, just calm down am coming over to your place, don't do anything stupid." "Hope getting drunk is not part of it", she teased, smiling to herself. "Just hang in there am coming", with that he cut the call. Ooh Mike my Guardian Angel!
