"Will the Print Media still be Alive in the 21st Century?"-YABATECH AMACOS WEEK- Day 2

SEMINAR AND AWARD
"Will the Print Media still be Alive in the 21st Century?"
This was the main topic discussed on day-2 of Yaba College of Technology, Association of Mass Communication Students Week held yesterday.
This topic was well handled by Mr Shuaibu Husseimi of the Guardian Newspaper.

Mr Shuaibu said, the print media will survive because it gives the complete story of an event, unlike social media.
The social media, he says, can also run long stories and there are still people out there that like reading long stories, so the print media will definitely survive.
On the issue of favourable competition with social media and how to win back those that like reading using their phone, tabs and so on, he said, the print media have started joining them by creating blogs or online pages, so that readers can also read  full stories of event while on the go but that doesn't mean we don't monitor social medias like- Facebook and Twitter but we will make sure the stories are complete.
In conclusion, "if newspaper survive television, why won't they survive this foreign medium like the social media", he said.
When it came to talent and parent issue, the best answer was given by Mrs. Afolabi Morayo Brown.
"Do what your parent want you to be and be what you want to be, it's not a hindrance, she said.
Mr Benson Abayomi from Creative Limited, solved the topic- "How to be an indispensable staff of a dynamic cooperate organisation."
He concluded, saying the five important things to make one an indispensable staff are-
* must understand the essence of communication,
* must understand where you want to work,
* must understand yourself,
* must learn to be productive and
* must be able to solve problems.
Moreso, Mr Olumide Babalola, advise Part-time student to come for class irrespective of the one week event, reason that the part-timers had missed two weeks of lecture as a result of the last internal strike.
Other important questions that were asked are:
* the importance of content  for the Print Media cannot be over-emphasised. To this end, what is the media doing to ensure that they remain relevant in the industry in terms of content development?
*Looking at the aspect of neutrality, is the News Media observing the principle- tarnishing the image of a political aspirant in favour of the opponent. Is this justifiable?
Other important guest at the event are- HOD Liberal Studies- Mr Adedeji Olumide, Alahji O.T. Raheem- Deen of Student Affairs, Mrs Ashekere, Demeji Lamu Micheal, Mrs Jumoke Alawode-James and members from Student Union Goverment.
Barr. Bolaji Alabi, the new HOD of Social Science, was represented by Mr Olu Adedeji.
Mr Adedeji also announced the approval the approval of HND Programme for the Department of Mass Communication.
The programme would have lack entertainment not for MC Mekoyo and guest comedian, MC Long Man, who trilled the audience with their jokes and Lamu was no exception.
Lamu also concluded with advise, saying student should understand their potential irrespective of the course, that the talent is more important and it must be trained to its' limit.
